What is social anxiety (Social Phobia)?
Social anxiety disorder, also known as social phobia, involves intense fear of certain social situations – especially situations that are unfamiliar or in which you’ll be watched or evaluated by others. These situations may make you so uncomfortable that it makes you nervous just thinking about them. There are many social anxiety disorder symptoms. Here are just a few:
- Extreme worry for days or even months about an upcoming social event.
- Intense fear of being judged by others or of being watched, especially by people you don’t know.
- Self-consciousness and anxiety in every day social situations.
- Fear that others will notice that you’re nervous.

Avoidance of social situations to a degree that it hinders your activities or disrupts your life.
There are a few options when seeking ways to get social anxiety help. Medication is one way, psychotherapy is another, or you could try both. - Moderate Your Drinking: You may think that having a drink before social situations or a party will help with your anxiety, but it only increases the chances of a panic attack.
